Mouse strains can be successfully archived using CARD FERTIUP Mouse Cryoprotectant to cryopreserve sperm in lieu of live mice.
This allows us to make massive savings in cost and space required for
breeding management.
When live mice of a certain strain are required,
the cryopreserved spermatozoa are thawed, treated with CARD FERTIUP Mouse Preincubation Medium andCARD MEDIUM^®to
increase their fertility, and used to fertilize oocytes.
The embryos obtained from fertilization can then be transferred into recipient parents to produce the mice required.

Even strains which are difficult to obtain via natural crossbreeding can be successfully produced in a short period of time,by treating fresh spermatozoa taken from a male mouse with CARD FERTIUP Mouse Preincubation Medium and CARD MEDIUM^®,using the spermatozoa for in vitro fertilization,then transferring the embryos obtained into recipient parents.

It is also possible to produce mouse pups without the presence of a male mouse by using just the cauda epididymis of a male mouse,which has been sent safely and cheaply using CARD cold temperature transport kit The spermatozoa taken from the cauda epididymis are preincubated in CARD FERTIUP Mouse Sperm Preincubation Medium before being used for in vitro fertilization using CARD MEDIUM^®.
The embryos obtained from fertilization can then be transferred into recipient parents.

High fertilization rates can be obtained even in strains such as 129 and BALB/c,which are known for their low in vitro fertilization rates, by preincubating spermatozoa in CARD FERTIUP Mouse Preincubation Medium and CARD MEDIUM^® and carrying out in vitro fertilization in CARD MEDIUM^®.
